Citroen DS Confort 'Frog Eye' Saloon

The Citroen DS was launched in October 1955 at the Paris Motor Show. It was an instant success with 12,000 orders being taken on the first day. It was the first mass-production car with front power disc brakes. It also featured independent hydropneumatic suspension including an automatic self-levelling system and variable ground clearance and power steering.

The DS 21 was introduced a year later and was powered by a 2175cc engine which produced 109bhp. The DS further cemented its capabilities by winning the 1959 Monte Carlo Rally with its ability to sustain high speeds over poor surfaces. It was also named the most beautiful car of all time by Classic & Sports Car magazine after a poll of 20 world-renowned car designers.

The Citroen DS21 Confort ‘Frog Eye’ offered here at Autostorico was manufactured in 1967 and is the last year of the ‘Frog Eye’ production. Finished in Green with a White roof and Green leather interior trim. This example was sourced for its current owner from the South of France where it had been laid up for 30s year. He had been searching for an original car that had never corroded, given that it had lived its entire life in a dry climate. Imported to the UK in 2013, he undertook a no expense spared restoration carried out by marque specialist Pallas Autos. Works included removing the engine and gearbox and stripping the whole body, before a bare metal respray. The car was also subject to a full mechanical overhaul including engine, gearbox, and suspension rebuild. Other notable works included full interior re-trim.
