The E-Type Jaguar debuted at the 1961 Geneva Motorshow as a replacement for the hugely successful Jaguar XK150. The new E-Type was nothing short of a revelation, with its heady blend of supercar performance, breath-taking styling and low-price tag, the newcomer left its rivals reeling and customers desperate to own one. Designed by William Lyons and Malcolm Sayer, the E-Type was launched in 1961 in both fixed head coupe and roadster form with design inspiration taken from the Le-Mans winning D-Type sports racer. Built around a steel monocoque chassis with a front sub-frame to cradle the engine, all-round independent suspension using coil springs and dampers to the rear with torsion bars and wishbones to the front. Brakes were Dunlop discs all round, mounted inboard to the rear alongside the differential to reduce un-sprung weight. Powered by Jaguar’s XK 3.8 litre twin-cam straight six engine, the E-Type offered breath taking performance to rival both Ferrari and Aston Martin. The 3.8 litre engine produced 265bhp and boasted a top speed of 150 mph and a 0-60 mph time of just 6.5 secs.

The Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Series 1 Roadster (chassis number 850785) offered here at Autostorico is finished in Carman Red with Black Hardtop and Black leather interior. This original UK example was supplied by Henlys of London to its first owner on 6^rd December 1963. Having passed through several owners the car underwent a documented rebuild between 1982 and 1984 by Metalcraft Developments with an invoice totalling £12,500. In 1994 the car had a new bonnet fitted along with work to both doors, rear wings and scuttle before a re-paint.  Its also had a mechanical overhaul which included the engine, gearbox and new clutch being fitted and a suspension overhaul. In addition, the interior was re-leathered and a new hood fitted.

This excellent example passed to its current owner a Jaguar Enthusiast in 1999 who fitted a new steering rack, refurbished the radiator and added a Kenlowe fan. He also upgraded the brakes, fitting a Series II spec servo and Coopercraft disc brakes. The engine was reconditioned by VSE Engineering in 2000 along with an upgraded starter motor and alternator. Other notable works included a full re-wire and 5 speed gearbox, Koni Classic adjustable shocks, six branch exhausts system, 6 and 5 ½ Competition Wire wheels being fitted.

This beautiful, matching numbers, E-Type presents very well with nice panel gaps and is a joy to drive.
