Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Series II OTS Roadster RHD

The E-Type Jaguar debuted at the 1961 Geneva Motorshow as a replacement for the hugely successful Jaguar XK150. The new E-Type was nothing short of a revelation, with its heady blend of supercar performance, breath taking styling and low price tag, the newcomer left its rivals reeling and customers desperate to own one. Designed by William Lyons and Malcolm Sayer the “Series 1” was launched in 1961 in both fixed head coupe and roadster form with design inspiration taken from the Le-Mans winning D-Type sports racer. Built around a steel monocoque chassis with a front sub-frame to cradle the engine, all-round independent suspension using coil springs and dampers to the rear with torsion bars and wishbones to the front. Brakes were Dunlop discs all round, mounted inboard to the rear alongside the differential to reduce un-sprung weight. Powered by Jaguar’s XK 3.8 litre twin-cam straight six engine, this offered breath taking performance to rival both Ferrari and Aston Martin. The 3.8 litre engine was increased to 4.2 litres in October 1964. The 4.2 litre engine produced 265bhp and boasted a top speed of 150 mph and a 0-60 mph time of just under 7 secs.

Jaguar launched the “Series II” E-Type in 1968 largely to satisfy U.S. design legislation. The most distinctive exterior feature was the absence of the glass headlight covers. In addition, a wrap around rear bumper with tail lights positioned below. The Series II had re-positioned front indicators, enlarged “mouth” to aid cooling and the installation of twin cooling fans. Other improvements included: Upgraded brakes and the addition of industrial ribbed rocker covers instead of the polished chrome covers of the “Series 1”. The interior dashboard was also re-designed to incorporate plastic rocker switches in place of the “Series 1” toggle switches.

The Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Series II OTS Roadster (Registration No: TCR 890H) offered here at Autostorico is an original RHD matching numbers (Chassis No: 1R 1324) example finished in British Racing Green with Beige leather interior. Having been supplied new by Henlys London and first registered on 10th November 1969 this four owner example has covered a genuine 102,748 miles. Purchased by its third owner in 1994 this very original E-Type underwent a complete mechanical overhaul including an engine rebuild in 1998. Further restoration took place in 2003 that included a complete re-spray, Interior re-trim and bright work. Now offered for sale due to the current owner rationalising his collection I would describe this as one of the nicest E-Type’s I have ever driven. Offered for sale with a current V5 registration document, current MOT and substantial history file including invoices back to the 1970s, MOT certificates dating back to 1980, Original Jaguar information sheet and a copy of the Phillip Porter’s E-Type book in which TCR 890H features.
