Jaguar XK150 3.8 S Drophead Coupe

The Jaguar XK150 was introduced in the spring of 1957, as a replacement for the XK140 and was available as a fixed and drophead coupe. Whilst the 150 was similar in design to the outgoing model it was considerably more refined.  A one piece windscreen replaced the split screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors. The bonnet was widened, opened down to the wings and on the roadster, the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make the bonnet longer. In the interior, the XK140’s walnut dashboard was replaced by a leather trimmed unit. The launch specification of the XK 150 included SU carburettors, four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, independent front suspension with wishbones, coil springs, torsion bars and anti-roll bar, rigid rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. In 1960, Jaguar increased the engine size to 3781cc, providing the cars with a class-leading 220 bhp. The optional 150 “S” variant, was tuned to develop 265 bhp enabling it to reach 60mph in just over 7 secs and onto a top speed of just over 135 mph.

Having left the factory on 10^th December 1959, Chassis No: 827502 was first registered as OVL 150 and delivered to its first owner, a Lincoln-based company by the name of Jackson Hardware Ltd, just prior to Christmas. The second owner to acquire the car was Coventry based Ben Martin in 1964. A little over a year later Mr Martin sold the car to John Ward, who worked for the famous Patrick Collection. The car remained in Ward’s ownership until his death in 1980 but remained in the Patrick Collection museum until it was sold in 1994 to Bernie Ecclestone. Ecclestone kept OVL 150 for the next two years as part of his own private collection. The car changed hands again in 1996 bought by Mr David Stanley who meticulously maintained the Jaguar regardless of cost. In 2004 the car underwent a sensitive restoration with works including; Repaint in original factory Mist Grey and a documented mechanical overhaul including an engine rebuild. The interior still remains totally original with irreplaceable carpet mats and leather seats. Passing through several further owners this stunning XK150 boasts 16” chromed wire wheels, factory limited slip differential, 4 speed manual gearbox with overdrive and its original tool roll.

Supplied with an extensive history file including a current V5 registration document, previous MOT’s, heritage certificate, numerous invoices and a photographic record of the repaint and engine rebuild.
