Mercedes-Benz 250 SL "Pagoda" 5 Speed ZF Manual.

The Mercedes-Benz W113 SL was launched at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show as the replacement for the popular W121 SL 190. Penned by Mercedes’ lead designer Paul Bracq as principally a two-seater luxury sports touring convertible with a slightly concave hardtop, which inspired the “Pagoda” nickname.  All models were equipped with six-cylinder engines with multipoint fuel injection. The bonnet, boot lid, door skins and tonneau cover were made of aluminium to reduce weight, this combined with excellent suspension, powerful brakes made for superb handling. Mercedes launched the 250 SL in December 1966 with production ending in January 1968 making 250 the rarest of all the Pagoda models with only 5,196 built. Boasting 150bhp with the option of either an automatic or manual transmission the 250 SL was capable of speeds in excess of 120 mph making for effortless European touring.

The Mercedes-Benz 250 SL Pagoda offered here at Autostorico was first registered in Italy in 1967 and is finished in its original Blue with Black MBTex interior and navy-blue soft top. This stunning example boasts the highly desirable, factory fit, five speed manual ZF gearbox of which only around 100 were fitted to the 250-model making it one of the rarest and most desirable Pagoda derivatives on the market. Other notable features include: third seat option, factory hardtop and original Becker Europa radio. Having spent a large part of its life in California the car returned to Europe and was enjoyed by its current owner, who has continued to maintain the car to an exceptionally high standard. Work was entrusted to Pagoda marque specialist Roger Edwards, with recent invoices totalling close to £40,000.
