Ford Mustang Coupe 'Restomod'

The Ford Mustang is an American icon and was originally based on the Ford Falcon compact. The first production Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on 9th March 1964 and was introduced to the public at the New York World’s Fair on 17th April 1964. It was, and remains, one of the most successful product launches in automotive history. The Mustang sold over one million units in its first 18 months on the market and its legend lives on with revised models still in production today after 50 years, with each revision, the Mustang saw an increase in overall dimensions and in engine power.

The Ford Mustang Coupe ‘Restomod’ offered here at Autostorico is a 1965 registered example finished in Grey metallic with Red Alcantara interior trim. Having spent its early years in the USA the car was imported into Australia in late 2005. Upon arrival the new owner set about a no expense spared restoration which included the car being totally dismantled with the bodyshell being repaired and modified for RHD. The owner then underwent a complete bare metal re-respray. Attention then passed to the mechanicals with engine being rebuilt with a Stroker kit to 347 cu.in, a five speed Tremec gearbox was fitted along with rack and pinion power assisted steering. The suspension was uprated, stiffened and lowered along with fitting 4-wheel disc brakes with servo assistance, and the interior was fully retrimmed.

The car was then purchased in 2010 by Dave Butler a Mustang enthusiast in the UK who imported the car with the intention of showing the car at classic car shows and doing the occasional track day.  This stunning example has continued to lead a pampered, no expense spared life, with the engine being rebuilt in 2011 by renowned V8 specialist Knight Racing Services at a cost of £9100 (Dyno tested to 365bhp at the wheels).  Other notable upgrades include Custom engine bay with billet engine brace and air cleaner cover, oil cooler, billet dashboard and glovebox, stainless steel fuel lines, aluminium fuel tank, all hoses braided or stainless, new exhaust system, new wheels and tyres and seat belts.

Passing to its current owner in 2020 the car has continued to be enjoyed with several trips to Goodwood along with a trip to Le Mans.
